New Lawsuit: Roe v. Wade for Men
by Elsewhere inhttp://www.cnn.com/2006/law/03/08/fatherhood.suit.ap/index.html.
men want 'say' in unplanned pregnancyactivists seek right to decline financial responsibility for kids.
new york (ap) -- contending that women have more options than they do in the event of an unintended pregnancy, men's rights activists are mounting a long shot legal campaign aimed at giving them the chance to opt out of financial responsibility for raising a child.. the national center for men has prepared a lawsuit -- nicknamed roe v. wade for men -- to be filed thursday in u.s. district court in michigan on behalf of a 25-year-old computer programmer ordered to pay child support for his ex-girlfriend's daughter.. the suit addresses the issue of male reproductive rights, contending that lack of such rights violates the u.s. constitution's equal protection clause.. the gist of the argument: if a pregnant woman can choose among abortion, adoption or raising a child, a man involved in an unintended pregnancy should have the choice of declining the financial responsibilities of fatherhood.

What would be the greatest "Division" amongst Jehovah Witnesses.
by JH in.
they say that they are united in every way, that they enjoy the same teachings..... .
but what would be the greatest "division" amongst them?.
-
Justitia Themis
There are deep, deep divisions at this time which have yet to surface. I know many individuals who are viewed as "model JWs" who have very radical opinions and are not YET in a position to disclose them. I suspect there will be a future catalyst that will rip apart the JW organization, perhaps blood, perhaps the child abuse issue. Personally, I think it will be the child abuse issue. I suspect the US will soon disallow churches to hide behind the Establishment Clause. Most JWs will be devastated by the revelations.
I was shocked to find out that my PO ordered the Tort article from Baylor University. We had the CO visiting the week the newspaper article was released. As part of his talk he held up a copy of the article and said 'that we know this is just a lie.' Afterwards, my PO asked him what part of the article is incorrect. The CO said he never said that it was a lie or incorrect. :) My PO just smiled and walked away...for now.
There will come a time when we no longer will be content to smile and walk away.

That is interesting that speak of having two sets of elder, one in the congregation and one at Bethel, to which to report. On several occasions, this 'system' has led to grevious problems. I know of situations where child molestation by a Bethelite was reported to the Bethel elder. Nothing was done. The congregation elders wanted to act, but had no jurisidiction over the Bethelite. Now, assertions of child molestation by Bethelites are reported to the congregation elders. This change was made about a year ago.

Just how hyped was 1975?
by MuadDib inaight.
i was raised in the jws, but i'm still young (22) and all my life what i've been told is that the society never really promoted 1975 as the definitive year for the coming of armageddon.
what i was always told is that some overzealous witnesses took certain things out of context and developed a very extreme reaction - ie selling their houses, quitting their jobs, dropping out of school, etc.

*** km 5/74 p. 3 How Are You Using Your Life? ***Yes, since the summer of 1973 there have been new peaks in pioneers every month. Now there are 20,394 regular and special pioneers in the United States, an all-time peak. That is 5,190 more than there were in February 1973! A 34-percent increase! Does that not warm our hearts? Reports are heard of brothers selling their homes and property and planning to finish out the rest of their days in this old system in the pioneer service. Certainly this is a fine way to spend the short time remaining before the wicked world’s end

Marriage
to Nathan KnorrSince the 1920’s, Bethelites who desired to marry had been required to leave Bethel and serve Kingdom interests elsewhere. But in the early 1950’s, a few couples who had served at Bethel for some time were allowed to marry and stay. So when Nathan H. Knorr, who at the time was taking the lead in the worldwide Kingdom work, showed an interest in me, I thought, ‘Now, here is someone who will stay!’
Nathan had many responsibilities in caring for the oversight of the worldwide activity of Jehovah’s Witnesses. So he was very honest with me, giving me many reasons why I should think carefully before I accepted his proposal of marriage. In those days, he traveled a lot to visit branches of Jehovah’s Witnesses throughout the world and was often gone for weeks at a time. So he explained that we would be separated for long stretches of time.
As a young girl, I dreamed of being married in springtime and having a honeymoon on the Pacific islands of Hawaii. Well, we were married in winter, on January 31, 1953, and we spent our honeymoon that Saturday afternoon and Sunday in New Jersey. On Monday we resumed work. A week later, however, we did get away for a week’s honeymoon.
A
Hardworking CompanionNathan was 18 when he arrived at Bethel in 1923. He received valuable training from such old-timers as Joseph F. Rutherford, who took the lead in the work of the Witnesses, and printery manager Robert J. Martin. When Brother Martin died in September 1932, Nathan became printery manager. The following year, Brother Rutherford took Nathan with him when he visited branches of Jehovah’s Witnesses in Europe. In January 1942 when Brother Rutherford died, Nathan was given the responsibility of oversight of the worldwide work of Jehovah’s Witnesses.
Nathan was very progressive, always planning ahead for future growth. Some considered this inappropriate, since the end of this system of things was considered to be very near. In fact, one who saw Nathan’s plans asked him: "What is this, Brother Knorr? Don’t you have any faith?" He replied: "Yes, I do, but if the end doesn’t come as soon as we expect, we will be ready."

What on earth was he talking about?
by SickofLies inand adam was not deceived, but the woman being deceived was in the transgression.
notwithstanding she shall be saved in childbearing.--1 tim.2:14-15 .
any idea's what this was suppose to mean?

Perhaps PAUL didn't permit a woman to teach, but Jehovah did. Jehovah poured out the gift of speaking in tongues upon both men and women. When a woman was speaking in tongues, Jehovah was speaking directly through her and using her to teach men (and women).

Dear Art:
I'm not sure I feel comfortable giving more information. Is there something specific you would like to know?
Regarding the Bethel elder arrangement, I was speaking with a close friend. She and I have a mutual close friend who served at Bethel as a commuter pioneer and married a Bethelite. While at Patterson, her husband reported wife abuse (domestic violence), and got on the wrong side of a Bethel elder. This Bethel elder succeeded in driving them to leave Bethel. Her husband can never seem to be appointed. Whatever congregation they go to, this Bethel elder still tracks them and slanders his reputation.
He is now very content to serve the publishers (who love him dearly) in whatever capacity. You don't need the initials MS or E after your name to be helpful.

If you marry young and "in-the-truth" you STILL have an excellent chance of finding a freak or wierdo! Have you ever just stopped and looked at the people who attend the district conventions?

Cudos! I too am a member in good standing, and I intend to stay that way. I am extremely thankful I was born a lowly woman rendering me unable to serve as an elder. :) It keeps me from ethical conflicts such as those you must endure. I know other brothers such as yourself. They keep me sane. While you may not change the organization, I am sure you impact individuals greatly.
You do not have to worry about 'changing' the organization. Jehovah will. Please remember that the organization was never intended to exist! But for Adam's sin, we would not have this organization. It is an unnatural solution to an unnatural situation; hence, it does not work. But, the last days of this world are also the last days of this organization!
Please hang in there.
